Senator Hueso February eNewsletter

Posted on 02 Feb 2018 for representative Ben Hueso

Dear Friend, It's been a busy and exciting start to 2018! The State Senate reconvened in early January, and my colleagues and I have already begun tackling some of the most pressing issues in California today, such as gender equality, net neutrality and aid for victims of environmental disasters. I couldn't be prouder to be representing the 40th Senate District in Sacramento alongside our great state officials and legislators. My team and I are currently finalizing our legislative package for the year, which will include legislation to help small businesses by making the loan process easier and more transparent. We are also working with the Governor's Office on revising the policy of tax hiring credits for businesses to help incentivize the hiring of veterans, as well as parolees in an effort to reduce the rate of former inmates returning to prison due to a lack of economic opportunities. I'm also proud to announce that the Senate this week passed my bill, SB 635, California Promise Zones, which would create the Office of the Promise Zone Coordinator within the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development. A "Promise Zone" is a special designation by the federal government that helps low-income communities access critical revitalization money and resources. February also marks Black History Month, which commemorates the history and contributions of African Americans to our nation. This year's theme, "African Americans in Times of War", honors the brave men and women who served their countries in the armed forces, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice while defending the American ideals of freedom and democracy. I look forward to continuing to work on your behalf in the Legislature. As always, if we can be of assistance to you in the district or the Capitol, please do not hesitate to contact my offices. Yours very truly, Ben Hueso State Senator 40th District
